Richard McAllaster
The Richard L. McAllaster family moved to Medicine Lodge in 1967.
Richard and his wife Beverley (Voth) have two children. They were
somewhat familiar with Medicine Lodge before moving here. On several
occasions Richard had visited his great-aunt, Mrs. Everett Anderson
(Bertha), on her farm west of town. Later, when the Anderson's moved
to town, Beverly accompanied him on visits.
Richard and Beverley married in 1966 in Lyons, Kansas. Richard was
from Lyons and Beverley was raised in Little River, Kansas. In 1967
Beverley, with their first son, Richard Eugene, came to Medicine
Lodge to live with her mother, Meredith Voth. Richard had been called
for active duty in the United States Naval Reserve and was stationed
on a light destroyer for two years. While in the Navy Richard made
stops at Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines and
the coast of Viet Nam.
In October, 1968, Richard was discharged from active duty. He began
working at the National Gypsum Co. and is still employed there as a
mechanic. His hobbies include hunting and fishing. He is a Kansas
Hunter Safety Instuctor in Barber County. The "black dog" in the
1976 Peace Treaty Pageant belonged to Richard. As an active member
of the Medicine Lodge Jaycees, Richard served as President, Internal
Vice-President and Director.
Beverley is also an active community worker. In the Medicine Lodge
Jaycee Jaynes, she served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
In 1977-78 Beverley was presented with the "Jayne of the Year" Award.
The McAllasters have a second son, William James, born in 1971. They
all enjoy living in Medicine Lodge, and now consider it their home.
