H. H. Smith, son of Martha Ambrose & Deacon William True Smith, was professor of modern languages in the University of North Carolina front 1856 until 1868, called to organize public schools in Houston, Texas, in 1877, and in 1879 he was made president of the Sam Houston Normal college at Huntsville, Texas.
