Welcome to my site. My name is Jim McAfee and I reside in Georgia along with my wife, Karen, and our three kids; Hannah, Emma, and Ian. We are originally from Ohio and moved to the South in 1995 when I was transferred here.

On this site, I will store information on research I have done on my family's history (both my mother and father's side). I will also store old family photos that I have obtained.

I hope this site will help other relatives who are doing research on the family. Of particular interest is my discovery that I am descended from at least one (Stephen Hopkins) and possibly two (Thomas Rogers) of the Mayflower families. I have applied for membership in the Society of Mayflower Descendants, which involves proving your line all the way back to a Mayflower passenger. I have provided a link to their site for other family members who are interested in applying for membership. There are also links to Caleb Johnson's Mayflower site, which contains alot of interesting information about the pilgrims, as well as to the site of the Pilgrim Hall museum. You will also find a link to the Family Search site provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a free site and is a great place to start your research. Finally, below I have provided a family tree file going back to Stephen Hopkins. It may be a bit confusing, as it shows two lines back to Stephen Hopkins. That is because I am actually descended from his two oldest children, Constance and Giles. Apparently Ephraim Cook (generation # 5) & his wife, Mary Merrick, were distant cousins.

The process of researching my family tree all the way back to Stephen Hopkins has been a challenging task to say the least, but one that was exciting and very interesting. I had alot of help from my Mom, a couple of cousins, two of my aunts, and the Georgia Mayflower Society historian.

I will do my best to continue to update this site as I receive additional information. If you have any questions about my research, applying for membership to the Society of Mayflower Descendants, etc., just send me an e-mail at the address below.

I am currently working with several McCracken cousins over the Internet to research Alexander McCracken and Margaret Marshall, who came to America in the late 1700s from County Tyrone, Ireland. Margaret was the daughter of Henry Marshall, and Alexander had been Henry's carpenter. After the "scandal" of their romance broke, they got married and moved to America, originally settling in Pennsylvania and then moving to Cambridge, Ohio. I have a picture of Alexander McCracken, which would have been taken circa 1850, as well as a portait of Jesse & Mary Mccracken and their family, probably taken in the late 1880s. I have posted both of these to the site tonight.

I just got back from the McCracken family reunion held the 28th through the 30th in Upper Sandusky, OH. A good time was held by all those who attended. I had the opporunity to meet several McCracken cousins, including some from right here in GA. Several people exchanged old photos. I have a few I have posted here, including a copy of a drawing of Lorenzo Hopkins Cook, who was one of the original settlers of Upper Sandusky. I have also uploaded a group picture taken at the reunion picnic. If there are relatives who have more pictures to share, please e-mail them to me at j_mcafee@bellsouth.net, and I will post them on this site. I am interested in any additional pictures. Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to scan in or make copies of as many old pictures as I would have liked at the reunion.
