Notes for P
ETER PETERSON:
I have a message to bring to from seven generations of Peterson's covering almost 1 1/2 centuries. The first Peterson that I have any knowledge of was Peter Peterson who with his young wife set sail from Germany in the latter part of the 18th-century previous to the year 1788. After a six-week stormy ocean voyage landed in the United States of America and located in Salem County, New Jersey. Peter was a Shoemaker by trade. This trade no doubt doesn't sound of very much importance to the present generation, but when we stop to consider at that date factory made footwear was unheard and unthought of. In order to be the proud possessor of a pair of shoes, you first were obliged to tan the hides and furnish the leather and have the shoemaker come into your home with the cobbling equipment and hand make your shoes. In that day a man blessed with that skill was considered a man of importance, and no doubt commanded the paying salary. Peter Peterson and his wife were blessed with three sons, the youngest being John. It is he we are especially interested in learning about, as he is the forefather of the seven generations of us.

Child of P
ETER PETERSON is:
2. i.   JOHN2 PETERSON, b. 1792, Salem County, New Jersey; d. March 21, 1873, Philo, Illinois.
