| "Welcome" to our family and our friends. This "Family Page" is presented to record and show what has been found about our McAdams and related families ancestry. This history is an effort to present those known family members along with some information about them and allow us to get to know them, who they were, and then maybe add some more data as time passes. All of our known families originate from Celtic ethnic origin and almost all of our related families came from Scotland and the British Isles. Most of our ancestor families took part in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the War Between the States while building their future here in America. By using our imagination we can closely compare our history to that of many family stories which have been seen in the movies and on television. They certainly had an interesting struggle. Fortunately, I found Martha Cobb Lackey, a third cousin, who has been researching her own Cobb and related families for most of her adult life. She has proven to be of tremendous value in my efforts. Her research was impeccable while furnishing documentation which no one else possessed and she presented this information with gracious generosity. Much of our family information is furnished here as a result of her work and with her permission. Another valuable source was the McAdams Historical Society. This is a group of members who are attempting to gather and sort McAdams records for better and easier research and also published a book titled "Sons of Adam". Within this effort, our McAdams family has been listed as being of the Abbeville, South Carolina family descended from Thomas and Catherine McAdams who left Belfast, Ireland for America in 1767. Because documentation or solid evidence has not yet been found to prove our connection, this family of Thomas and Catherine and their son James and wife Charlotte is not included in this record. James and Charlotte had a son also named James, born the same year as our first known documented ancestor, and I have proof that we are his descendants and part of this family. I have not been able to successfully tie into any other McAdams family. There exists some doubt among Society members due to some conflicting DNA evidence concerning connection to this Abbeville ancestry and it is only for this reason that these two generations are not included in this report. Circumstantial evidence is all that is available now. My sincere appreciation is extended to my relatives here in America, to my cousin Susan Jennings overseas in the United Kingdom, and all family members who have contributed to this effort. I am thankful to the generous friends I have met during this effort who have assisted in this work. Hopefully, our children and grandchildren will have this record to answer their questions one day and to provide information to them. This record is meant to be a database which can be edited, changed, and amended as needed. I hope you enjoy it and maybe learn a few things because I certainly did. I will be glad to respond to your contacts. Enjoy, and if you wish, add to it. |
