Lawrence Young McAuley Sr. (son of William Rea McAuley and Zilpha Annie Lilly)6, 7 was born February 13, 1919 in Sanford, Lee Co., NC. He married (1) Avanell Scofield on August 02, 1942 in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL, daughter of John Clayton Scofield and Minnie Inez Jordan. He married (2) Mary Dolores Mullen on December 31, 1972 in Orlando, Orange Co., FL, daughter of John Kenneth Mullen and Blanche Annetta Jones.

Lawrence graduated from the Sanford High School,Sanford, N.C.in the class of 1936.==He attended the North Carolina State College, Raleigh, N.C., in the class of 1940,but did not graduate. The draft registration was installed for World War II & he enlisted in the Army Air Corp on December 18,1940. He attended & graduated ,as an aircraft & engine mechanic, from the Casey Jones School of Aeronautics, Newark, N.J..When Pearl Harbor was attacked he was selected to become an aircraft pilot. After receiving his Pilot wings & 2nd Lt. commission he served in World War II , the Korean & Vietnam conflicts, in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force until 31 Oct.1964 when he was retired in the grade of Lt.Col. He was an Instructor Pilot for B-17 Bombers in the Air Training Command during part of WWII and then flew B-29 Bombers as an Aircraft Commander from Guam over Japan until the war ended. After World War II ended, he flew on the Project Sunset which involved flying the B-29 Bombers from various bases in the Pacific to bases in Texas for stock-pileing. He also flew C-54s as an Aircraft Commander on the Berlin Airlift from when it started until it ended, flying 182 missions into Berlin. The last 12 years of his service he was flying as an Aircraft Commander in C-124s on global missions for the Strategic Air Command. He earned numerous medals & awards during his flying career, among them were The Air Medal, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, The Berlin Device, The Medal For Humane Action, and was a charter member of "The Good Humor Squadron". He was also awarded the rating of Command Pilot which is the highest pilot rating of the Air Force.
He is a member of the Martin McClanahan Lodge No. 384,F. & A. M. in Bossier City,LA , a member of Seminole Chapter No. 373 National Sojourners, Oralndo,FL and a member of the First Baptist Church, Orlando,FL. He married Mary Dolores Mullen on Dec.31, 1972 in Orlando, FL. No children were born from this marriage.
