1. THOMAS1 DOWDY was born Abt. 1733, and died Bef. Feb 1815. He married (1) ELIZABETH PARSONS1 Bet. 1750 - 1752, daughter of ROBERT PARSONS and ELENOR PARSONS. She died Bef. 17741. He married (2) REBECCA UNKNOWN Abt. 1773 in North Carolina. She died Bef. 1818.

"13 May 1798 Thomas Dowdy, Senior, gave Power of Attorney to his son William Dowdy, “to sue for, recover & receive all sums of money and dower rights of and from the Estate of Robert Parsons, deceased, whose daughter, Elizabeth, I married.” . Witnesses: M. McKenzie & J. McBride. Proven at Chatham NC May term of court 1798".

Listed in the 1805 will (One mare, bed and furniture). He is listed in the 1815 Chatham Co., NC Tax List in Captain Alstons's District, (Joab Dowdy for Thomas Dowdy's heirs 134 a. on Deep River - $168). Listed in the 1810 Chatham Co., NC Census Records.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Joab Dowdy's name appears to be validated via the 1805 will of his father, Thomas Dowdy. There appears to be other evidence of a Jacob Dowdy, also born abt. 1806, and who appears in the 1810 Chatham County Census. Jacob Dowdy, 1 male 26-45, 2 females under 10, 1 female 16-26.
