He came from a wealthy family in Germany who owned flour mills. His father's name was Eduard Heyer born in 1833 and deceased in 1899. His mother was named Wilhemina Krause, born 1835 and deceased 1900. He had one brother named Adolph and four sisters whose names were Emma, Helene, Bertha and Hedwig.
