He married (1) ELIZABETH 'BETSEY' THORNBY June 13, 1814 in Miami Co., OH. She died Abt. 1834 in OH. He married (2) MARY ANN JOHNSON June 28, 1838 in Miami Co., OH. She was born 1798 in PA, and died December 1868.

NDREW DICKSON BRIER:
Andrew left PA before 1810, possibly about the time his father moved to Westmoreland Co., PA, in 1807, and went to Montgomery Co., OH, where records indicate that "on 28 Oct 1811, Andrew D. Brier, of Montgomery Co., OH, bought land in Miami Co., OH". On 21 Feb 1831 he and his wife, Betsey, sold some land at Stanton, Miami Co., OH, and on 3 Sep 1831, he bought land from his brother, George and wife, Letitia, of Clark Co., OH, "lying between the great Miami and Mad Rivers". Most of his children, when they left, moved to Clark and Henry Counties in Iowa.

  Notes for GEORGE W. BRIER:
He was the youngest son of Andrew Dickson and Elizabeth Thornby Brier. He was raised by John Andrew, his brother, after 12 years of age. During the Civil War he fought in the battles of Champion Hill, Vicksburg, and Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh). He resided in Miami Co., OH. His will, dated 18 Jun 1907, was probated on 17 Aug 1909.




28. CAPTAIN SAMUEL4 BRIER (DAVID3 MCBRAYER, WILLIAM2, FATHER '1ST GEN'1) was born June 25, 1777 in "Williamsburg", Hamiton Twp, Cumberland Co., PA, and died 1858 in Fountain Co., IN. He married BETSEY CAMPBELL June 26, 1804 in Greencastle, PA, daughter of WILLIAM CAMPBELL. She was born July 09, 1781 in Cumberland Co. PA, and died April 17, 1849 in Fountain Co., IN.

APTAIN SAMUEL BRIER:
In 1794 he served as "Samuel Bryer" in the Whiskey Insurrection in western Pennsylvania with the Franklin County Militia. He was a Captain in the War of 1812 and served under General Harrison, who sent him to build Fort Brier near Greenville, Darke Co., OH (2nd Reg't, Ohio Militia, under Col. Price).

Samuel migrated to Ohio in about 1809 and settled in Dayton Twp., Montgomery Co. Nancy, his youngest sister, made her home with him and he was her guardian until she became of age. In about 1828 the family moved to Shawnee Twp., Fountain Co., IN. Samuel was a Presbyterian and a Succeeder, and a Whig in politics. On 29 Jan 1830 he bought land from his brother, James. He was a trustee of the Rob Roy Presbyterian Church in 1839. Earlier, in 1827, he was a Trustee of the Coal Creek Presbyterian Church. He sold some land on 22 Apr 1845 to his sons, Burgess B. and Samuel A. His will, dated 2 Aug 1853, was probated on 15 Oct 1858.

She was born March 12, 1790 in Westmoreland Co., PA, and died March 19, 1861 in IA.

He remained in Franklin Co. (formerly Cumberland Co.) until 1806-07 when he moved with his father to Westmoreland Co., PA.

By Sept 1809 James and Mary Lodge Brier were at Stillwater, near Dayton, Ohio, having moved there with his brother, Samuel. He was a Sergeant in the War of 1812 from Montgomery Co., OH. The census of 1820 for Dayton Twp, Montgomery Co., OH, records him and Samuel there.

In 1826-27 James and his family moved to Shawnee Twp., Fountain Co., IN. They lived here until his death in Dec 1838. He was buried at "Shawnee", Attica, IN.
