Notes for JOHN YOUNG MCBRAYER: He first entered the service as a private in Oct, 1864 at Ashville, AL, in A Company, 18th AL Inf.- the Hardin Battalion - and continued until captured 2 Feb 1865 and escaped same date and was unable to return before the end of the war. (St. Clair County, AL, 1907 Census of Confederate Soldiers) He is listed as the 'head of the household' in the 1870 census and was shown as a store clerk. He is 23 years of age and the oldest of seven children listed. |
