She was born Abt. 1825 in NC, and died Aft. 1880.

Notes for W
ILLIAM MCBRAYER:
He was in NC (Rutherford Co.) on 20 Oct 1840 when they sold 160 acres of land on Robertson Creek to JOHN BURGE for $600. (Bk 45, pg 408, #383, Deed, Rutherford Co., NC.)

William's first wife, Druscilla, was deceased by 1841 in NC (sometime between 20 Oct 1840, when they sold the above listed land, and Jan 1841 when he married Sarah Dye. William and Sarah apparently moved to GA shortly after their marriage in 1841, where William was located in Habersham Co. in 1843. By 1850 the family was living in Dade Co., GA, where he remained. Both he and Sarah were shown in the 1870 and 1880 census. Both are presumed to have died in GA and are buried near Rising Fawn, Dade County.

ITEM #1: "Book A, pg 375, #178, Deeds, Cleveland Co., NC. Wm McBrayer of Habersham Co., GA., empowered Reuben Hill and Noah Weeks of Rutherford Co., NC, to collect $162, part of the estate willed by David McB, dec'd. /s/ 20 Feb 1843 by William McBrayer."

ILLIAM MCBRAYER and DRUSCILLA MCINTIRE:
Both William and Drusilla were under age, according to the records, and Housen Harrill appeared as bondsman and THOMAS F. BIRKETT (Theo F. Birchett) was listed as a witness. The bond was issued on 24 Jun 1825 in Rutherford Co., NC.

ILLIAM MCBRAYER and SARAH DYE:
Early marriages, Rutherford Co., NC - (Where one or both were under age bondsmen had to sign a marriage bond with a witness.) Wm McBrayer -m- Sarah Dye, 11 Jan 1841, Peter Jolly - bondsman; S. Wilkins Deputy Clerk - witness. (She was only 16 years of age at the time of her marriage.) [Bond # 000134856]

If the above data is put in context then one conflict is that the GA census lists Sarah's state of birth as GA. The marriage was in NC. Later census reports show her birth state as NC.

Marriage: January 11, 1841, Rutherford Co., NC

Children of W
ILLIAM MCBRAYER and DRUSCILLA MCINTIRE are:
  i.   LEAH6 MCBRAYER, b. March 02, 1827, Rutherford Co., NC; d. April 08, 1915, Rutherford Co., NC; m. SAMUEL HARRILL, March 09, 1846, Rutherford Co., NC; b. February 09, 1811, Rutherford Co., NC; d. June 22, 1896, Rutherford Co., NC.
  Notes for LEAH MCBRAYER:
One source gives DOB as 3 Oct 1829. Since her father was in GA in 1843 and she was married in Rutherford Co., NC in 1846, it is possible that both she and her sister, Druscilla, remained in NC when the family migrated southwest into northeastern GA. Leah was married in 1846 in Rutherford Co., NC. to Samuel Harrill.

Living with the family in 1850 was Leah Harrill (age 22, b NC), daughter of William Harrill and Priscilla McBrayer.

  Notes for DRUSCILLA MCBRAYER:
Since her father was in GA in 1843 and Druscilla's marriage took place in 1854 in Cleveland Co., and her sister, Leah, was married in 1854 in Cleveland Co., it is possible the two youngest children of William remained in the Carolinas with family members when their father migrated to the southwest to Northeastern GA.

  Notes for WILLIAM G. MCBRAYER:
(Almost all the information on the descendents of William G. McBrayer has been graciously provided by Raymond Cathcart.)

He was listed as '18' in the 1850 census and '29' in the 1860 census.

The 1860 census, Solola Farm, Dade Co., GA, (974th District G M, Hobbie PO, Dwelling 368, Family # 319) found by Raymond Cathcart shows the following information:
      W.G. McBryar, 29, m, Farm Laborer, b NC
      Elizabeth, 25, f, b GA
      Joseph G., 8, m, b GA
      Mary V., 5, f, b GA
      Annie 4, f,
      Sarah, 8/12, f, b GA

(I have just found an 1860 Federal Census enumeration of the W. G. McBryar [29, M, Farm Laborer, born NC] (the spelling may be misconstrued, but I am comfortable that it should be as I have it) family in the 974th District G M, Hobbie PO, Dade County, GA (NARS Microfilm Pub. No. M653, Roll No. 118, page 1002 [sheet 48], Dwelling 368, Family No. 319). The others (wife and children?) in residence are Elizabeth, 25, F, born GA; Joseph G, 8, M, born GA; Mary V, 5, F, born GA; Annie, 4, F; and Sarah, 8/12, F, born GA. The wife and children are the same as enumerated in the 1870 Federal Census of Jasper, 7th Civil District, Marion County, TN (NARS Microfilm Pub. No. M593, Roll No. 1546, page 448 [sheet 15], Dwelling 114, Family No. 112), except Elizabeth has been remarried (and widowed) and has another child, John age 3, born AL.)

  Notes for ALFRED MCBRAYER:
It is thought this Alfred was from the Dade Co., GA area and MAY have been the father of Green McBrayer who married Malinda Lucrecia ?. If it was the same individual he served in the 4th (8th) TN Calvary (Smith's Regiment) during the Civil War. Alfred was captured at Smith Co., TN and served about 18 months in a POW camp.

Also in the same regiment and from Dade Co. was a Green McBrayer. Green enlisted on 3 Aug 1863 and took his oath of allegiance to U.S. on 1 Apr 1864. His physical description was: 5' 7", blue eyes, dark hair and dark complexion.

Alfred was living in Dade Co., GA in 1860.

LANEY, March 08, 1868, Dade Co., GA; b. Abt. 1848, GA; d. Bet. 1870 - 1880, AL; m. (3) CLARA A. LANEY, October 24, 1874, Dade Co., GA; b. September 13, 1856, GA; d. July 03, 1935, AL.
Notes for THOMAS JEFFERSON 'JEFF' MCBRAYER:
Most of the information contained herein on the family of Thomas Jefferson McBrayer and his descendants has been provided by Cindy Lou Rogers Miles (clmhearts@farmerstel.com) We are indeed indebted to her for her most generous and unselfish contribution to the family lines.

Jeff lived in the NE corner of Alabama, primarily in Jackson Co. (records) and apparently crossed the border into Dade Co., GA, since many records have him and/or his family in that area.

Records of Discharged Soldiers, Scottsboro, AL courthouse, 1960 Habersham Co., S.C., enlisted in the 4th Alabama Calvary, Co. "E". Continued to the end of the war. Was on the Coosa (or Goose) River when he was discharged."
(note: There is no Habersham Co. in SC; one is located in GA.)

At some point in time the family surname was changed to "McBryar" as recorded on some of the headstones in the McBryar Cemetery in Jackson Co., AL. Spelling differences were also noted in many of the census records of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

"He is buried in the McBryar Cemetary in Jackson Co., AL. It is not far from where I live, but I am not sure whether it is in Bryant, AL. or Higdon, AL. Both places are very small and close to each other. The cemetary is off the road and you would have to know where to turn to get there. There are several graves around his that I was told were his wives. He moved HUGE slabs of rock over the graves. There is only one wife with a tombstone, though, and that is Clarrie's. ....... There are no rock slabs on her grave...."
"Thomas was married, I am told, at least two or three times. Two are supposedly sisters, Elizabeth and Clarrie." (Cindy Lou Rogers Miles)

Cindy states, "He (her father-in-law) told me the cemetery (the McBryar Cem.) was McBryar land and that it had been given for a cemetery with the understanding that no one would be charged for a plot there.

Virginia A., age 7, b GA
Saira E., age 4, b AL

Sara Price, age 54, b TN (Is this Elizabeth's mother?)

It is shown by the census records that T.J. was married 1st before 1861 to an unknown wife & had two children by this marriage. This is proven by marriage records for his second wife, Elizabeth - date of marriage 8 Mar 1868, and the ages of the children in the 1870 census. (See also records of his third marriage)
