Eliza's mother was maid in waiting to Queen Victoria.

Through the Black line, they were related to Robert the Bruce.

Eliza emigrated first with the children and settled in Irondale, OH, had a grocery store. James Sr. emigrated at a later date.

She was known to say that the Halladays and the Blacks were distant cousins.
