Pg. 5 In 1760 Rowland, son of Robert and Hannah Courtney, appears in Craven Co., SC, which evolved in to what is presently Florence Co. Rowland received a land grant on Sparrow Swamp, a branch of Lynch's Creek which flows into the Pee Dee River on April 9, 1760. Rowland and Sarah Courtney's son James was born Oct 17, 1764, in Craven Co. All of Rowland's brothers and his sister Phoebe's family were in this area from 1762 through 1774 and appear on documents such as poll lists and land grants on Sparrow Swamp.\\
