* The John McBride Family Home Page*

Updated September 5, 2000

I am researching the James McBride Family that resided in Hampshire, Virginia, (now a part of West Virginia), during the 1700's. James was classified as a patriot by the DAR in recognition of his services to the Revolutionary Army. He was a farmer and had extensive land holdings in Hampshire county.
James #1, married three times. His first wife was Sarah Edwards, b. ~ 1740, d. ~ 1794. She bore James 9 children, Stephen, Elizaeth, Mary, Eleanor, Hannah, Sarah, Thomas, Marjorie, James, b. 31 October 1776.

He married his second wife, Rachael Parks Nixon in 1795, she was the widow of George Nixon. They had no children.

He married for the third time a Mary Ashbrook, birthdate and place unknown. They had no children. She died 24 July 1830 in Hampshire County.

I am a descendant of James #2, his youngest son, and have extensive data on that branch of my family. Using FTM I also located a descendant ofJames #1, oldest son, Stephen, and have some information on that branch of the family.

thanks to Vernon McBride of NJ he furnished me the following information on James #1: He was born in 1734 in Cullybackey, County of Atrim, Ulster, Northern Ireland. Now if anyone can tell me how I might find out what ship he sailed out of Belfast on his way to the colonies I would appreciate your contacting me. I am also interested in learning about any of his ancestors, siblings, etc.

At the same time I would be happy to furnish any of my information with interested parties.
