John Gibson (son of John Gibson) was born August 1, 1848 in Yorkshire England, and died September 9, 1938 in Friend, Nebraska. He married Adora (Dora) Head on January 1, 1876 in Friend, Nebraska, daughter of James Head and Anna Bradford.

He sailed for America with his parents on the Old Kangaroo in the year 1858. After landing, they spent a week in New York City before moving to Amboy Lee County, Illinois. In 1870 the family moved westward to Saline County, Nebraska to a farmstead 4 miles northeast of Friend, Nebraska.

John and a neighbor girl Dora Head soon began enjoying themselves together as they rode their horses over the prairies. They were partners in life for 62 years. When first married, they moved into a dugout for a year and a half when first married.

John helped promote the Burlington and assisted in laying the track from Lincoln to Friend. It was a day of great celebration when the first crude engine came puffing into Friend drawing behind a string of cars.

At the time of Estella's wedding in 1898, the Gibsons lived four miles northeast of Friend, NE.
