Our family's story mirrors the story of our nation. Beginning with the first English settlement at Jamestown in 1607, our ancestors have tilled this land and defended it. Most of our people are unknown to the writers of American history, but their spirit has given America's story life. A few of them were famous in their time; many more were related to or knew some of the movers and shakers who did make it into the books. Our ancestors' graves are scattered across the land from Virginia to Texas and beyond. Many of our family names can still be found on state maps and remain a testament to our journey through American history.
Almost all of our ancestors in this line were originally from England, Scotland, or Ireland. Almost all of them arrived in Virginia early in the 17th century and followed the migration of Scots-Irish settlers through the Carolinas and west. They were southerners and protestants, fiercely independent and deeply religious. Most of all, they were an American family, and this research is an attempt to find and record their stories so that their 21st century family can know them.
