| I am Graham McCartney, researching the roots of my family in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. I am particularly interested in: Surname Family Ties 1st Name Earliest Location Dates McCARTNEY Paternal G'Father Kennedy 1792-1874 Down,Ireland BLACKMORE Maternal G'Father William Cir 1810 Liverpool,England MOON Paternal G'Mother Joseph Cir 1800 Kilrea,Ireland GRAHAM Maternal G'Mother Thomas 1702-1782 Dundrum,Ireland My Grandfather, Andrew McCartney (1880-1973) had a sister Agnes who married Stuart Henry Massey and went to live in New Zealand. The Family originated from around Leggygown near Saintfield in the 1800's where they were farmers. We think my Great Grandfather's father was John Kennedy, a farmhand in that area, who married the proverbial farmer's daughter, but these links are not properly sourced yet, other than through a gravestone inscription given to me by my Grandmother (Moon). My great grandfather Joseph William Moon had a daughter Margaret by his 1st wife who emigrated to America c. 1849 and married a Patchell, with whom she had a daugther (Margaret Colflesh nee Patchell - 1890-1958) who married a Colflesh in Pensylvania, USA. The Blackmores appear to have originated around Devon and Cornwall (statistical evidence)before the oldest we have (William Blackmore) got married to Eliza Holland in Liverpool (1839) and then emigrated to New York where his son (Henry William) was born (1848)and got married (1869) before returning to Ireland around Ballinrobe (1870). We know the last date only because his son (confusingly William Henry) was born in Dublin in 1870. This is all a bit sketchy and anecdotal with little documented research. William Henry was my Great Grandfather and Station Master in Dublin for many years (railways. The Graham's are the longest line traced by to 1702 but again only through anecdotal evidence given to me by my Uncle Tommy (my mothers 1st cousin 1x removed) who was a Sea Captain with the Union Castle Line. The family seems to have lived around Dundrum (and still does) for the last 300 years since that earliest ancestor arrived, probably one of the original Scots Irish planters as were the McCartneys. I also have evidence that they were involved in shipping as clerks in Belfast ship yards for many decades before Uncle Tommy went to sea. It is my intention to focus my genealogy research by seeking out documentary evidence for these lines: McCartneys Going back to Kennedy McCartney born 1792, Co.
