Sulzman of 99 Brunswick Road, Troy; husband of Helen Coffey Sulzman; son of the late Dr. Frank M. Sulzman: and the late Helen Daley Sulzman; father of John Houston Sulzman Jr. of Albany, James Francis Sulzman of North Adams, Mass., Dr. Frank Malcolm Sulzman of Binghamton, Paul William Sulzman, Timothy Michael Sulzman, and Dr. Charles Michael Sulzman, all of Troy; brother of the late Rev. F. Merrill Sulzman and the late Mrs. Thomas P. (Rose) McColl. Seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral will be held from the Finn Funeral Home, 102 Third Street, Waterford Saturday morning at 8:30. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church Troy. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
Dr. John Sulzman; physician in Troy, native of Waterford TROY - Dr. John H. Sulzman of Brunswick Road a practicing physician in Troy for 32 years, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He retired from practice in 1970. Born in Waterford, he was son of the late Dr. Frank M. Sulzman and Helen Daley Sulzman. Dr. Sulzman was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Manhattan College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He did his residencies in ophthalmology and otolaryngology in the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Sulzman was a member of the medical staffs of St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, Cohoes Memorial Hospital, Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, Vt., Glens Falls Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II. In 1945, Dr. Sulzman was awarded a citation by Admiral F. W. Rockwell for outstanding service to the Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Training Command in original research developing training in night vision. He was a diplomat for the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Otolaryngology. He was a fellow in the. American College of Surgeons, a past president of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, chief of ophthalmology at St. Mary's Hospital and Cohoes Memorial, and a member of the State Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sulzman also was a charter member of Troy Country Club and a former member of the Van Schaick Island Country Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Coffey; six sons, John Houston Sulzman Jr. of Albany, James Francis Sulzman of North Adams, Mass., Dr. Frank Malcolm Sulzman of Binghamton, and Paul William Sulzman and Timothy Michael Sulzman and Dr. Charles Michael Sulzman, all of Troy; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
