The annual McColl reunion is held in the Adirondacks of NY State every Labor Day weekend.

    Grandpa "Mac" or Dad came to the US from Scotland. Thomas Patrick McColl was born in Reton, Dumbartonshire, Scotland, and Mr. McColl resided in Troy area since 1945. He had worked as a consulting engineer for many national and international firms at one time. While in Troy he was owner and operator of Hammett Machine before retiring. Mr. McColl was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. His wife, Rose Sulzman McColl, died in 1989. Survivors include four daughters, Rosellen Wimsatt of Bowie, Md., Maura Stockey of Chino, Calif., Eileen Hart of Morro Bay, Calif., and Kathleen Bibb of Charleston, S.C., four sons, Merrill McColl of Ballston Lake; Hugh McColl of Burnsville, Minn. Frank McColl of Clifton Park, and John McColl of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Rose Moore of Huddersfield, England; and Mary Malley of San Jose, Calif.; 25 grandchildren; and 12great-grandchildren. Thomas Patrick McColl 89, of Van Rensselaer Manor, died yesterday at St Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY after a long illness. Burial is in St. Agnes Cemetery in Cohoes.

  • Lt. Cdr John H. Sulzman, USN (27 KB)
    Born January 26th, 1908, in Waterford, N.Y. he was son of the late Dr. Frank M. Sulzman and Helen Daley Sulzman. Dr. Sulzman was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Manhattan College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. He did his residencies in ophthalmology and otolaryngology in the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Sulzman was a member of the medical staffs of St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, Cohoes Memorial Hospital, Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, Vt., Glens Falls Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II. In 1945, Dr. Sulzman was awarded a citation by Admiral F. W. Rockwell for outstanding service to the Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Training Command in original research developing training in night vision. He was a diplomat for the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Otolaryngology. He was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a past president of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, chief of ophthalmology at St. Mary's Hospital and Cohoes Memorial, and a member of the State Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sulzman also was a charter member of Troy Country Club and a former member of the Van Schaick Island Country Club. He retired from practice in 1970.

  • Fr. Merrill Sulzman, 1931 (18 KB)
    Rev. Merrill Sulzman is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank M. Sulzman, 1831 Fifth Avenue, Troy, N. Y., and a member of St. Peter's Church, Troy. He was born on March 16, 1906. He graduated, from LaSalle Institute, Troy, and Manhattan College, New York. His theological studies were made at St. Augustine's Seminary, Toronto, Canada. Father Sulzman will sing his first High Mass in St. Peter's Church, Troy, on February 15. Two priests of the Vicariate of Alaska, to which Father Sulzman belongs, will assist him at his first Mass. The arch-priest will be the Rev. Edgar Gallant and the deacon the Rev. George Woodley. The Rev. John Nestor of the Church of St. Rose of Lima, New York city will preach the sermon.

    Hugh & Karen McColl wedding picture. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Snider of Rogers, Ark., announce the Engagement of their daughter, Miss Karen Lee Snider, to Lt. Hugh F. McColl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. McColl of Troy. Miss Snider was graduated from St. Vincent Infirmary School of Nursing in Little Rock, Ark. She is residing in Phoenix, Ariz. Lieutenant McColl was graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Michael's College in Winooski Park, Vt. He is serving with the U. S. Air Force Minuteman Missile Program at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and is attending the Graduate School of the University of North Dakota. The wedding is planned for July 4 at the Minot Air Force Base Chapel.
