| Robert McClenachan Sr. emigrated from Ulster, Northern Ireland about 1728, with his wife Sarah Breckenridge. Her father Alexander Breckenridge and his family, with many other Scots-Irish families came to America at the same time. They remained in the Philadelphia area until they migrated to the Shenadoah Valley in Virginia, settling in Augusta County about 1740. Capt. Robert McClenachan Jr. was killed at the Battle of Point Pleasant WVA, Oct. 10, 1774. He was married to Catherine Madison. They had two sons, Robert (3rd) and John. John McClenahan Sr. migrated to Upper Louisiana Territory and settled in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri in 1797. He married Lydia Burns, and they had five sons; James, Madison, John Jr., Michael and Spicer, and one daughter, Mary Ann. He was a Justice of the Peace in Jackson Township from 1837 until his death in 1847.
