2. LAURENS2 DUYTS (RICHARD1) was born 1610 in Holstein, Denmark, and died 01/16/1667-68 in HUDSON CITY, NJ. He married GEERTJE JANSEN 01/01/1665-66 in Bergen, NJ. She was born 1612 in Oldenburg, Germany, and died WFT Est. 1670-1736.

IMMIGRANT ANCESTOR, LAURENS DUYTS ARRIVED IN THE COLONY
OF NEW NETHERLANDS IN 1639. HE CAME TO AMERICA ON THE SHIP
"DE BRANT VAN TROGEN" OR "FIRE OF TROY." HE HAD BEEN BORN IN
HOLSTEIN (PRESENT DAY DENMARK, THEN IT WAS PART OF THE
NETHERLANDS) IN 1610. WHEN HE ARRIVED HE GOT A JOB HELPING
CLEAR 500 ACRES OF LAND WHICH HAD BEEN PURCHASED FROM THE
INDIANS BY JONAS BRONK. THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN BRONK AND HIS
2 WORKERS STILL EXISTS. BRONK WAS TO ADVANCE 121 FLORINS TO
PAY THEIR BOARD UPON THE SHIP. BY THIS AGREEMENT LAURENS
DUYTS WAS A PIONEER OF THE AREA WHICH TODAY IS THE BOROUGH
OF THE BRONX IN NEW YORK CITY.
LAURENS DUYTS WAS COMMONLY KNOWN AS "LAURENS GROOTSCHOE"
OR "BIG SHOE". HE MARRIED YTIE JANSEN AND THEY HAD 3 CHILDREN.
HE WAS BANISHED FROM THE COLONY IN 1658, FROM THE BOOK
SCANDINAVIAN IMMIGRANTS IN NEW YORK 1630-1574, IT SAYS HIS MORAL
LIFE DOES NOT DESERVE MENTION, "BIG SHOE" TRAMPLED UPON THE
LAWS OF DECENCY HE RECEIVED A MOST SEVERE SENTENCE FROM
STUYVESANTA ON NOVEMBER 25, 1685 FOR SELLING HIS WIFE, YTIE
JANSEN, AND FORCING HER TO LIVE IN ADULTERY WITH ANOTHER MAN
AND FOR LIVING HIMSELF, ALSO IN ADULTERY, HE WAS TO HAVE A ROPE
TIED AROUND HIS NECK, AND THEN BE SEVERELY FLOGGED, TO HAVE HIS
RIGHT EAR CUT OFF, AND BE BANISHED FOR 50 YEARS.
LAURENS DIED AT BERGEN, NEW JERSEY AROUND 1668.
