The McCONAHEY Family - Where It Came From and Where It Went
Updated April 2, 2009John Frederick McConahey 9384 Babauta Road #124 San Diego,CA 92129-4931 (619) 271-4369 | Families of primary interest to me: BALLANTINE, BEASLEY, GAINES, GIFFIN, LOSSEE, McCONAHEY, MELTON, STORY The quest to learn the heritage of the McConahey family began for me in 1998 as a not-so-serious hobby, fueled by a birthday gift of Family Tree Maker. Now retired, I can pursue the project with the same enthusiasm I devoted to both the building of and playing in that tree house in my neighbor's back yard during the humid hot summers of Pittsburgh in the mid-50s.My father (b. 1899, d. 1972) was alive for the first flight of the Wright brothers as well as Neil Armstrong's first step onto the moon.I expect the technological advances he observed will make this research task not only easier for me, but much more rewarding. The William McConahey's lived in western Pennsylvania in the late 1800's. The spelling of my surname changed from McConnaughey to McConahey and I believe the change to be initiated by my great grandfather, although I don't know the rationale. My father's mother was Maude Lossee.McConahey's are said to have fought with Robert the Bruce in Scotland. My mother's father, Frederick Ballantine, married Lulu Buckey in 1909.Residents of eastern Ohio, four Ballantine brothers migrated to this country from Scotland in the early 1800's. My wife's family (maiden name - Melton), descends from the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma. I seek information on the families listed above. My Grandfather Ballantine spent the last few years prior to his death in 1959 compiling information on Ballantines and their marriages and I am willing to share the results of his efforts with interested parties. |
