Descendants of Eleanor, wife of William Urin and Richard Woolcome

Generation No. 2

       2. Edward2 Uran (Eleanor1 _____) was born Abt. 16465, and died 1676 in Boston, MA?6. He married Jane _____ Bef. 1668.

Notes for Edward Uran:
The records pertaining to this family located so far cover a span of barely
8 years, beginning with his purchase of a half-interest in the estate of his
father on Star Island 04 mar 1667/68, sold to James Blagdon 07 nov 1668. By
1674 he was in Boston, where he purchased land sold in 1675. He was part
owner of the shallop Phillip, captured in an expedition against pirates. His
testimony showed he had not taken part in the piracy, and the ship was
returned to him. After administration of his estate in 1676, nothing further.

Children of Edward Uran and Jane _____ are:

  8 i.   Edward3 Uran, born June 02, 1669 in Boston, MA.

9 ii.   Matthew Uran, born November 16, 1672 in Boston, MA.

10 iii.   Benjamin Uran, born May 25, 1676 in Boston, MA.
       4. John2 Uran (Eleanor1 _____) was born Bef. 1657 in Isles of Shoals, NH?7, and died Bef. 1734 in Portsmouth, NH?. He married (1) Abigail Westbrook Abt. 1685 in Portsmouth, NH?8, daughter of John Westbrook and Martha Walford. He married (2) Rebecca Cate November 12, 1686 in Portsmouth, NH?9, daughter of James Cate and Alice _____.

Notes for John Uran:
At Portsmouth, NH in 1689 (signed a petition, see Mass. Archives vol. 35,
p. 229), and on 16 mar 1695/96 received 8 acres there in confirmation of a
grant to his father William Urin in 1653. He was one of the grantees of the
town of Epsom, NH, and his grandchildren sold their interest in his estate
there in 1771. These documents establish the connection of later generations
to William of Isles of Shoals. He was received into covenant in the South
Church of Portmouth on 09 jan 1715, where his children were baptized.

Notes for Abigail Westbrook:
Evidence for parentage of Abigail is highly circumstantial. On 21 mar 1692,
John Westbrook sold land in Portsmouth to his son-in-law John Urin. Since
John's second wife is known to be Rebecca Cate, this transaction has
traditionally been taken as evidence that John's first wife Abigail was John
Westbrook's daughter. This is complicated by the assertion collected by
Torrey (New England Marriages before 1700) that John Westbrook married Alice
Cate, widow of James Cate and mother of Rebecca Cate, sometime after the death
of James Cate in 1677. However, contemporary evidence for this marriage has
not been located. In fact, the estate of James Cate came before the probate
court as late as 1702, and still refers to Alice Cate, widow and
administratrix of James Cate of Portsmouth, carpenter. It does not seem
likely that Alice would still be named Cate if she had remarried to Westbrook.
John Westbrook, meanwhile, died in 1697, and his widow Alice renounced
adminstration of the estate of her husband in favor of his oldest son, Thomas
Westbrook. If the widow in question was indeed Alice Cate, and if she married
John Westbrook before 1692, then it is possible that John Urin would be
Westbrook's "son-in-law" by virtue of the latter being the stepfather of
the former's wife. In that case, Abigail would not have to be a Westbrook at
all.

The matter is not settled by the documents relating to John Westbrook's
estate. No indication survives of who the heirs-at-law were.

Child of John Uran and Abigail Westbrook is:

+ 11 i.   Richard3 Uran, born 1686 in Portsmouth, NH?; died January 13, 1776 in Newbury, MA.

Children of John Uran and Rebecca Cate are:

12 i.   William3 Uran, died Aft. 1744 in Falmouth, ME?.

  Notes for William Uran:
With his sisters, he sold his interest in his father's estate to James
Brackett by deeds dated 02 may 1734 and 13 dec 1735. His name does not
appear on the surviving tax lists of Greenland, NH (but first volume lost
by fire). C. C. Whittier suggests he was the same William Uran who served
as a private in the Snow Shoe Company under Capt. Domini Jordan of Falmouth,
ME, 14 apr 1744.

13 ii.   Mary Uran. She married Cater Frost May 09, 172310.

  Notes for Cater Frost:
Apparently, the unusual name represents the union of the Cater and Frost
families of Star Island, rather than a corruption of Cato. Notwithstanding
this evidence of a marriage between the families, court records contain a
case involving a fight between a Cater and a Frost.

  14 iii.   John Uran.

  Notes for John Uran:
Believed to have died early because he is not mentioned in any of the family
deeds that dealt with the estate of his father John Uran. His sisters and
brothers are mentioned in such deeds in 1734 and 1735, and later in 1771.

+ 15 iv.   Joseph Uran, born Bef. 1696 in Greenland, NH?; died Aft. 1760 in Greenland, NH?.

+ 16 v.   James Uran, born Bef. 1700 in Portsmouth, NH; died Abt. 1761 in Greenland, NH.

+ 17 vi.   Eleanor Uran, born Abt. 1700 in NH.
       5. Francis2 Uran (Eleanor1 _____) was born Bef. 1660 in MA, and died 1713 in Ipswich, MA11. He married Alice _____.

Notes for Francis Uran:
No direct evidence links Francis to William Urin, other than being in the
right time and place. He appears to have lived at Ipswich from 1681 until
his death in 1713. Administration of his estate was granted 09 apr 1713 to
his eldest son, William. These facts put his date of birth no later than
1660, but possibly much earlier.

Children of Francis Uran and Alice _____ are:

+ 18 i.   William3 Uran, born August 05, 1681 in Ipswich, MA; died January 15, 1758 in Ipswich, MA.

+ 22 v.   Peter Uran, born May 15, 1694 in Ipswich, MA; died Aft. 1759 in Salem, NH?.
       6. Zacheus2 Woolcome (Eleanor1 _____) was born Abt. 1667 in Isles of Shoals, NH, and died Abt. 1700 in Portsmouth, NH12.

Children of Zacheus Woolcome are:

+ 23 i.   William3 Willcomb, born Abt. 1690 in Star Island, NH ?; died December 03, 1726 in Ipswich, MA.

24 ii.   Deborah Woolcome, born Bef. 1700. She married Daniel Smith March 24, 1722 in Ipswich, MA.

25 iii.   Richard Woolcome, born Bef. 1700. He married Elizabeth Hodgkins April 22, 1710 in Ipswich, MA.
       7. Anne2 Woolcome (Eleanor1 _____) was born Abt. 1669 in Isles of Shoals, NH. She married John Muchemore.

Notes for John Muchemore:
The family was numerous on Star Island. Many different spellings have
occurred: Muchmore, Muchamore, Muchemere, Michamore, etc. In published
records of Star Island, they are too numerous to sort out with any certainty.
The family is also noted occasionally in records of Portsmouth.

Children of Anne Woolcome and John Muchemore are:

26 i.   Joseph3 Muchemore, died 1725 in Isles of Shoals, NH13. He married Sarah _____.

  27 ii.   Sarah Muchemore.

+ 28 iii.   John Muchemore, born Abt. 1690 in Isles of Shoals, NH; died 1752 in Isles of Shoals, NH.
