Notes for David Abel: OBITUARY DAVID ABEL SR. DAVID ABEL SR.,life long resident of the Donnellson vicinity, died at the home of his son, Harry Abel, Monday evening at about 5:45 o'clock. His wife passed away suddenly on the last March 18, and a short time afterward, Mr. Abel fell and fractured his hip, and has been confined to his sick bed since. David Abel Sr., a life long resident of Lee County, was born in Franklin township on June 3, 1857, and died on May 15, 1933, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was received into membership of St. Peter's Evangelical Church at Franklin, Iowa, through Christian baptism and confirmation on April 2, 1871, later transferring his membership to Donnellson. On February 24, 1881, he was united in holy matrimony with Katherine Mary Graulich, who preceded him in death, March 18, 1933. On February 24, 1931, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. This union was blessed with ten children, two of whom died in infancy. Mr. Abel had been an active farmer in this vicinity until recent years since he had retired. He had been in failing health for some time, previous to his last illness, caused by a fractured hip, several weeks ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Hotop, of West Point, and Mrs. Anna Hirschler, of Donnellson; six sons, Harry, David Jr., John, Elmer, Raymond, and Leroy, all of Donnellson; also one brother Theodore Abel of Donnellson; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Abel residence, north of Donnellson this morning at 10:00 and from St. Paul Evangelical Church.
