At that time, he was free to marry. He and Mavis Long Heyl were first married on December 22, 1967 in Mobile, AL by Judge Boone. In 1968, they were marriedbyArchbishop Byrne in Dubuque, Iowa.John Bonée adopted Mavis-Marie and her sister Larrye-Marie on August 18, 1969.
