3. CAPT. JAMES² MCCLURE (JOHN¹) was born 22 February 1745/46 in Uwchlan Township, Chester, Pennsylvania, and died 02 October 1821 in Uwchlan Township, Chester, Pennsylvania. He married ESTHER MCCLURE 1772, daughter of JAMES MCCLURE and MARY LEWIS. She was born 1751, and died July 1814 in Uwchlan Township, Chester, Pennsylvania.

Notes for CAPT. JAMES MCCLURE:
James was commissioned as a captain in the Continental Army and commanded a company under General George Washington during the campaign in New York state.

James was captured by the British near the close of the hostilities and was imprisoned at Long Island. He escaped and returned to his father's house.

He married AGNES WALLACE 12 February 1784 in East Nantmeal Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, daughter of ROBERT WALLACE and MARY PICKENS. She was born 17 October 1763 in East Nantmeal Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, and died 15 March 1800 in Uwchlan Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania.

Notes for LT. BENJAMIN MCCLURE:
Benjamin hauled supplies to General George Washington's Army while the were encamped at Valley Forge, Pa. during the winter of 1777-78.

He served in the Cumberland County Militia, First Battalion, under Colonel James Dunlop and Captain George Crawford.
