Obituary--J.D. McClure was born in Jefferson County, Pa., on November 6, 1861, and passed away at his home on March 1, 1943, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 25 days. He was the son of B.K. and Mary McClure and came with his parents to Iowa in December 1865 and lived with them on a farm west of Knoxville. He was united in marriage with Mary Wren on Feb 16, 1892. To this union, five children were born, three of whom and Mrs. McClure are still living. Mrs. Forest Goodspeed of Des Moines, Mrs. Harold Jones and James McClure of Knoxville and ten grandchildren. One grandson, Earnest Jones, was unable to be present as he is serving his country somewhere overseas. Four sisters, Rose, Effie, Bertha and Jessie McClure, all of Indianola also survive him. He was a successful farmer in Marion and Warren Counties until he retired nineteen years ago, when he moved to Knoxville where he has since resided. The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon by Reverend Fr James L. Garrity. Internment in Wren Cemetary.

MYSTERY OF ELMER MCCLURE'S DISAPPEARANCE EXPLAINED

Supposed to have suicided Tuesday, but was not discovered until Saturday Morning.

The mystery of the disappearance of Elmer, the 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. McClure, north of town, September 15, was explained Saturday morning when his lifeless and decaying body was found hanging to a tree, just north of the Pella fair grounds. The boy disappeared from his home two weeks ago. Last week it was rumored that he had returned and the Express had a paragraph to that effect, but this was a mistake. His father made strenuous efforts last week to find him, but with no avail. Saturday morning, a man who was operating a ditching machine north of the Pella fairgrounds, was passing a clump of trees, where he saw a body hanging to a limb. He gave the alarm and word was sent at once to Knoxville and Orville W. Thompson of South Dakota, was in town with his six-cylinder auto, started for the scene with Deputy Sheriff Cronkhite, John Wren and Henry Hurst. Once there, they found the body of a boy, in horrible condition, suspended from a tree by a piece of wire. He had turned his coat collar to protect his neck and carefully fastened the wire about his neck, outside the collar. The body was in terrible condition. The boy was seen about Pella on Tuesday morning and it is supposed he committed the deed that day. The body was alive with worms and the features beyond recognition, but from the clothing, the body was fully identified. No funeral was held. The decomposed body was placed in a casket and brought home Sunday morning for internment. The cause of the awful act will always remain a matter of conjecture, as no reason apparently exsisted for his leaving home.
