Jacob Jackson Brown (son of David Brown and Catherine Brown) was born Abt. 1830 in Gap, PA, and died date unknown. He married Mary Ann Gross on January 18, 1853 in Honeybrook Township, Chester County, daughter of George Gross and Rebecca.

Enlisted: November 6, 1862 Honorably Discharged: Harrisburg, PA July 27, 1863
Re-enlisted, September 17, 1864; Honorabley Discharged, June 19, 1865

Pension show that as of February 15, 1893, Jacob was 63 years old; was 5' 6" tall and weighed 166 3/4 lbs. Complexion was listed as light, hair as dark and eyes blue.

Original Pension Claim # 481.812 Application for Pension July 25, 1883 Received Pension of $8.00 per month
Examining Surgeon's Certificate dated July 25, 1883 states: "while in the service of the United State, at or near a place named Yorktown, VA, and while in line of duty on or about March 1863, he incurred dippepsia & rheumatisum and that in consequence thereof he is 3/4 disabled for earning his subsistance by manual labor".

January 26, 1892 and Affidavit by Levi Wise, 40 years old, stated that he saw Jacob 1 to 5 times a week except when he was in the army. "He comes to my shop at times and he has to sit down he gets so weak".

Levi sates that "in 1852 & 53 Levi's father owned a farm in Salsibury Twnpt, Lancaster Co. Jacob worked as a laboror on the adjourning farm. In 1855 Livi's family moved. In 1871, Jacob moved to the same neighborhood.

Levi also states that about 1880 Jacob was driving cattle for drivers and delivering cattle bought from drovers at different hotels for farmers who had purchased them.

Department of the Interior, Pension Office, August 4, 1883 states "Soldier contracted dyspepsia in Co B. 178 Pa Vol in March 1860 at Yorktown, VA. Contracted Rheumatisum while in Co Unassigned 3rd PA Artiliary Volunteers at Williamsburgt, VA, March 1865 (152 PA Vols."

War Department - "Jacob J. Brown, a Pvt unassigned of 3rd Regiment PA Heavy Arty (152) Volunteers, was enrolled on the 17th day of September 1864 at Lancaster, PA (1 yr) and Regt Return for Octo 1864 reports him on detached service with 188th PA Vols.

Peter Hershey and Henry H. Roberts also signed on the Claim for Pension on April 26, 1883.

Department of the Interior statement says "my wife died March 6, 1896". Does not match the date I have. He also states he has eight living children and they are all of age. this dated May 4, 1898.

United States Pension Agency, Philadelphia, PA December 31, 1902 Certificate No 719.238, Jacob J. Brown. "Sir: I have the honor to report that the above-named pensioner who was last paid at $8.00 to November 4, 1899, has been droped because of Section 4719, R. S.
