Preface

The first information that I have been able to find is that Michael and Catherine Reagan (this is spelled differently each time I see it sometimes raigan, and others regan), have a son Thomas baptized 18 Oct.1828 at St. Famile RC church in Bathurst, New Brunswick Canada. Michael's name is written as Maitel Manoty on that record. The godparents were Jean Dempsey, and Helene Delyquin. Thomas later shows going by the name John, when he marries Ellen Dempsey in 1851. Just prior to the entry for Thomas's baptism, there is a Ann McCarty that is the godmother to Timothy Walsh on 5 June 1828, and there is a Richard McCarthy baptized 18 Mar 1826, son of Richard McCarthy, and Catherine Dois, Richards godparents are Simon Murphy (spelled Morphy), and Anne O'Sullivan. Also baptized 19 Mar 1826 is Heleine Burke daughter of John Burke farmer, and Catherine Collins, and on 2 Nov 1827 there is baptized Thomas Hegarty (spelled Hergerthy) son of Thomas Hegarty, and Bridget Madigan (spelled Magdon), with godparents Edward Dougherty (spelled Dohorthy), and Mary Burke. I mention these people, because they are close to the McCarthy's throughout my known information on them, both in the Bathurst area and the Houlton Maine area.

In June 1833 Michael bought lot number 9 Salmon Beach (eastern part of Bathurst) at auction for 19 pounds when the previous owner's business went bankrupt. A Patrick McCarthy has a judgement made against him for failure to complete agreed upon services in the Bathurst area in 1833 also. I don't know who this is. I don't see any other mention of him. I wonder if it is the Patrick in New Limerick born 1817

On 6 Sep 1843 Michael and Catherine has son Joseph James, and on 8 Sep 1844 Michael married Catherine Cronin (spelled Crownen/Crownen/Crouly). This makes me think that Catherine Reagan likely died in child birth with James, and I suspect that she is buried in the St. Famile cemetery, but I can't find any record of that. The people at Holy family say that they can't find a record of Michael being buried there either, but I see it listed on the microfilm of the St. Famile church records that I obtained through the Later Day Saints Family History Center! It states quote "on the sixth day of February I interned in the cemetery of St. Famile the body of Michael McCarty".

When Michael died on 30 January 1860, he left the eastern 50 acres of the eastern half of lot number nine Salmon Beach to James quote " should he return home and take care of his wife and three young sons", otherwise it is to go to Andrew. The western 50 acres of the eastern half of lot number nine is to go to Andrew, quote "provided he stay and work with my three young sons, until they are of full age" (21). The western half of lot number nine 100 acres is to go to quote "my three young sons, namely Patrick, Florence, and Thomas, them not to have control of the land, until the youngest is of full age and they agree to take care of my wife, as long as she shall remain unmarried".

In 1869 Florence (Frank) emigrated to New Limerick, Maine and purchased land on the County Road near a Patrick McCarty that had arrived between 1847, and 1848. Catherine (Michael's wife) and Thomas also show up on the 1880 census. Thomas (a shoemaker) showed up on the 1871 census of Bathurst with the family of Daniel Ward, and Thomas baptized his daughter born February 1872 at St. Mary's RC church in Houlton Maine, so he must have emigrated in 1871. I suspect that Tom married Sara Bradley in New Limerick, but at least one of the census list her as being born in New Brunswick. I think that Frank, and Catherine went to New Limerick to be near Patrick McCarthy b1817 and his wife Catherine Kelly b1823. Frank also signs the deed when Patrick transfers land that his wife had owned to his daughter Florence, so I am quite certain that there is a family relationship here, but I haven't made the connection yet. Patrick owned the fourth lots on both sides of the county (lots 4 Range B, & C).

Patrick b 1845, the older brother to Frank and Tom, doesn't seem to emigrate with them (or at least, I can't find him). Patrick shows in the 1871 Bathurst, NB Canada census using the name Michael with the Dobbins family, and when he sells his inherited land in 1872, the deed lists him as being living in Bathurst, but I can't find anything more on him.

In New Limerick, Maine Frank marries Rose Ann Corrigan b1846 there in New Limerick. Rose was the daughter of Thomas Corrigan, and Mary Travers. I think that they were from Donegal Ireland. Tom and Mary had the farm across the road Lot 1 Range B, and when Tom and Mary die they leave the land to their son John (who married Ellen J Sheehan), and daughters Rose (Frank's wife), Mary A (wife of John Sheehan, Frank's ½ brother by his mother's first marriage), and Margaret J (wife of William Kiley). Frank purchased the parts from John, Mary, and Margaret, so that they had the entire farm

Frank and Rose purchased lot 2 Range C on the county road in 1875, and they had 8 children, James b1870 d1945, Elizabeth C (Lydia) b 1872 d1956 married James Hannigan, Frederick L b1874 d1951, Catherine Elizabeth b1876, Mable Rose c1880, Francis Winfield, and twin sister Theresa Winifred b1882 (went by Winfield, and Winifred) who married Ethel Theresa Hannigan b 1887 the daughter of Owen Hannigan, and Catherine Bradley, who owned the western ¼ of lot 1 Range B. Lot 1 Range C is still owned as it was then by the Hogan family. Lot 3 Range B was owned by the Monahan family, lot 3 Range C was owned east ½ by Conlogue, and west ½ by R.M., and lot 5 range C was owned by Eugene, and Ellen McCarty (this would be the property just past the station road)(I haven't been able to place them yet).

Winfield McCarthy, and Ethel Hannigan bought lot 5 (which we knew as 7) south street, had six children, Clayton Winfield 1910, Mable Rose 1914, Olin 1915, Katheryn Elizabeth 1916, Nadine 1918, and Justin Frederick 1920. Justin was my father, and went by Fred

Fred married Susan Jennie Welch daughter of Robert Stanford Stewart Welch and Birde Edwards of Woodstock, New Brunswick Canada. Fred and Jennie had property at Nickerson Lake and after Winfield, and Theresa died, they also purchased the property on South Street. Fred, and Jennie had 5 children Carol Joyce, Wayne Frederick, Susan Mary, Nadine Ethel (lived only a few months), and Robert Stewart.
