He married (1) RACHEL KERR November 24, 1843 in Johnstonebridge, Dumfries, Scotland. She was born 1822 in Johnstone, Dumfries, Scotland, and died May 25, 1880 in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. He married (2) ELIZABETH COUTTS July 04, 1881 in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, daughter of PETER COUTTS and JEAN GEEKIE. She was born 1838 in Bendochy. Perth, Scotland, and died July 07, 1907 in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada.

Notes for JAMES R. MCNEILLIE:

James McNeillie came to Canada in 1853 & settled in the township of Clarke, where he taught school until coming to Port Hope in the year 1868. After taking up residence in town he was on the Public School staff for 12 years. In the year 1880 he retired from the profession, having taught for over forty-two years. He was a man of retiring but kindly nature and possessed a most remarkable memory. He was an ardent churchman, having been an elder in the Presbyterian church for over 45 years. Mr. McNeillie was first married to Rachel Kerr, who died in 1880, and two of their sons, Thomas R. of Toronto and James R. of Lindsay and one daughter, Janet R., wife of Mr. J. F. Clark of Port Hope, survives. One brother Mr. M. McNeillie of Toronto and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Bland of Cramahe are still living. Mr. McNeillie's second wife, Elizabeth Coutts, survives him.
The family plot is # 91, range (row) 26, in Union Cemetery. 1-905-885-5459.

He resided on Walton Street.
