The McCluan side of the family apparently emigrated from Northern Ireland sometime after 1846. My great-grandfather settled in the Pittsburgh area, while other brothers or cousins seem to have ended up in Newburg, NY and Mingo Junction, OH. The original spelling of the name (McClughan) was supposedly shortened by a Pittsburgh court order to McCluan. Eventually, many of the Pittsburgh offspring moved to Florida and Southern California. While there are several McClughans in the census records for the early 1800s, the McCluan name does not appear until much later in the 1800s, with the isolated exception of a "Richard McCluan" who appears in the 1820 census records of Savannah, GA. The Cramers (also spelled Kramer,Kremer,Kreamer,Kraemer, and several other ways) go back to the early 1800s in Centre and Venango Counties in Pennsylvania. My great-great-grandparents, Adam and Margaret Cramer, were both born in about 1803, and had ten children. Other names in the tree include Millikin, Llewelyn, Morgan, Hunter, Hanna, MacCary, Madden and Adair. Please contact me if you can add to our tree, or have any questions. |
