I am presently researching my father's side of the family, namely the Walton, Allen, Ward, Smith, Anthony, Barlow, Hensel, Fuchs, Hammel, Bauer, and Keck(?) lines. Most of the last six lines made their appearance as German-speaking immigrants during the 1823-1850 time frame. My research is hampered by the fact that although these were land-owning families, the Monroe County, OH courthouse records were destroyed in two fires.

There have been twists in my research. My great-grandfather, Charles Denoon Walton (1861-1930) evidently had two wives, and I still haven't found the marriage license for him and Great-Grandmother Emma Ward Walton. I also have not found out what happened to his first wife, Ella Mays Grow Walton, or their daughter, Bessie.

Another instance is Elizabeth Specht. Although associated with the Johann Conrad Bauer family, she was born a Specht in VA (January 29, 1838). I would like to know what happened to her birth parents.

Christian Anthony, Sr. came to this country around 1923 from Switzerland, was in Placerville, CA for the Gold Rush (1850) and finally settled in the Ohio Valley. He was my great, great, great grandfather. We do not know exactly where he came from, where he landed, or if any other family members accompanied him from Switzerland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
