Ebenezer Stephens was born abt. 1824 in Laurens County, Georgia and died January 04, 1894 in Calvary, Decatur County, Georgia. He married (1)Mary Ann "Polly" Elkins abt. 1842. (2) Mary Ann Elizabeth Johnson Nov. 04, 1863 in Gadsden County, Florida. Children of Ebenezer and Polly were: Lewis Green, Saphronia Jane, Sarah Isabella, Mary Ann Elizabeth, Martha Caroline, Jacob Henry, and Jesse Young Stephens. Children of Ebenezer and Mary Johnson were: Julia Ann, Nancy Candacy, James S. and Samuel Stephens. Ebenezer served in the Army of the Confederate States from August 22, 1863 until surrender in May 15, 1865. He enlisted in Quincy, FL and was attached to the Florida Calvary, 5th. battalion, Co. D. He was paroled in Tallahassee, FL in April of 1865. Civil War Records describe Ebenezer as being a man of dark hair, blue eyes, light skin and standing 5 feet, seven inches (5'7") in height. He was a farmer. He is buried in the Stephens Cemetery in Calvary, GA on the property that he owned and farmed. His lst. wife, Polly Elkins was the 1st. person buried in this cemetery. There are about 29 graves in this cemetery.
