From the McDonnells of Ballaghadderreen Connty Mayo (alternatively Co Rosscommon) Ireland in the mid 1880's a James and Alneas McDonnell left to go to England. They went to Cheadle Staffordshire; Alneas had a son, Michael, my grandfather; our family multiplied in Stoke-on Trent ("the Poteries"). James was shoemaker - his nephew Michael also. Michael's grandson - now Profesor of Space Physics and his wife Jean are researching the connections in Co Mayo; we're interested in Irish records - especially before 1865.Later records, from the family parish in Ballaghadderreen, we have searched - and offer these to interested persons; we go back to Eire in July to search more.
Many must have gone to the USA from that time and area; possibly also from Cheadle England - around 1870?
Any ideas?
