The John McDowell Family, of Ahoghill, Northern Ireland

Updated June 27, 2006

I am researching the surnames MCDOWELL, Nagel, Peirce, Manning, Boomer, Borden, Jensen, Gilmore, Shelley, Archer, Deering, Bell, Flynn, Mann, Mack, Lewis, Somers, Conger or anyone else who ties into the attached report. Our McDowell progenitor, John McDowell (1808-1890) was born in the townland of Carmacmoin, Ahoghill, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He married Rose Kernohan. They had three sons (John Jr., Robert and my g-grandfather Alexander) and five daughters (Isabel, Margaret Ann, Elizabeth, Rose Jane and Martha). John Jr. (1836-1927) emigrated to New York in 1859 and then New Zealand in 1876. Alexander (1841-1899) and his sister Elizabeth (b. 1847) sailed to New York City in 1863; then Alexander settled in Wellsburg, PA and Ashland, OH.
I am searching for the parents of either John McDowell, Senior or his wife Rose Kernohan. As I have exhausted all known sources of information in Northern Ireland, I am turning to fellow searchers for assistance.
Several lines can be traced before they arrived in the Northeastern United States. I have more than 11,000 individuals in my family file. I am willing to share information with anyone.
