My McDermott ancestors lived in Pennsylvania ( Near Scranton ). My paternal GG Grandfather (John Cassidy MacDermott) was born in 1818 on a farm near Enninskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland. He sailed to New York in the summer of 1839 on the ship Powhattan.He migrated to Lancaster and settled in Port Carbon PA. In 1849 he married Catherine Gillespie of Combola PA. He died working on a farm (near Rush PA) in 1867. My primary area of research is Luzerne, Lackawanna, & Wyoming Counties in PA. Surnames that I am researching are: McDermott, Harding, Donohue, Gillespie, Sullivan, Connell, Sweeney, and Cassidy. I would also like to research how the McDermotts ended up in County Fermanagh Ireland. Most of the McDermotts seem to come from County Sligo or County Roscommon in the Irish Republic. |
