The James & Mary (Crosby) McDevitt Family Heritage

Updated September 5, 2000

The James & Mary (Crosby) McDevitt family immigrated to the USA in 1873 from Quigley's Point, Cabry, Parish of Lower Moville, Donegal, Ireland in 1873. They first settled in Phillipsburg, NJ. They had nine children, six born in Ireland and three, including my grandfather, James A. McDevitt, Jr., born in Phillipsburg, NJ. The family is listed on the US census of 1880 as living "outskirts of town", Dishwater Hill, Warren County, Phillipsburg, NJ. Sometime before 1900, the family relocated to Philadelphia, PA. On the US census of 1900, the family is listed as living at 814 Stillman St., Phila., PA.I have a great picture of the family including the childrens spouses taken at the 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration for James & Mary, circa 1909. For a copy of the picture and a copy of Who is Who, send a E-mail message to me;bagroom@aol.com
