| This branch of McDuffies originated in Colonsay, Scotland, and is descended from Daniel McDuffie, born 1697. His son, John, came to North Carolina sometime around 1750. His descendants eventually ended up in Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama. The majority of our direct line have been located, for the most part, in Geneva, Coffee, and Pike counties in southern Alabama. Some of the surnames currently being researched are: McDuffie, Davis, Smothers, Cain, Cumbaa, Thurston, Chitty, Grubbs, English, Wise. |
