Hugh Crowder

Common belief among researchers seems to be that Hugh Crowder was the father of Henry Crowder, in spite of no surviving records to prove this.During the Revolutionary War and The Civil War, as well as a fire at Old Jamestown, many records were destroyed.However, we do know that Hugh arrived in Jamestown, VA in 1619 on the ship Bona Nova and that he was the first Crowder to arrive in Virginia.The dates and places all seem to point to him as Henry's father.
Hugh died in 1628 in James City, VA without a will.He sat in the House of Burgess.The Attorney Assembly appointed Rice Watkins administrator of his estate.The records for Crowder's Plantation in James City, VA show where Hugh Crowder had five servants:Richard Ball arrived on the George in 1617, Thomas Hawkins arrived on the James in 1622, Paule Renalles arrived on the Trial in 1619, Nicholas Smith at age 18 arrived on the Bona Nova in 1621, and John Verin at age 14 arrived on the George in 1623.
