The McDonald's of Sumter County, Alabama and South Carolina

My name is Robert Irving McDonald. I live in South Carolina and have traced my father's ancestors from Alabama back to South Carolina. My father was William Lee McDonald, born in Bellamy, Alabama on October 31, 1921.

Going back as far as I can, William Samuel McDonald probably was born in South Carolina around 1795. Samuel married Nancy Lavender, probably in Fairfield County, SC. They had two children, William and John McDonald, before moving to Sumter County, Alabama in 1822. There my family prospered for over 100 years.
