Samuel McDonald was born July 21, 1797 in either Pennsylvania, Ireland, or Scotland. I think he had three wives...Martha Hodge, Susannah Everitt, and Christina Piles. These families are from Ireland, Ohio, Pennsylvania,West Virginia, Kansas, and Illinois. The names we are researching are: MCDONALD, ALLEN and HODGE. Samuel had 4 children that I know of from his first marriage to Martha Hodge. Martha and Samuel were married on April 15, 1823 in Stark Co., Ohio. Their four children were Rebecca(born in PA.abt 1824), Catherine(born in PA.about 1825), Thomas(born in Virginia about 1827), and William(born in Brooke Co., West Virginia Nov. 1, 1835). Thomas and William served in the Civil War-William in the Ohio 53rd Volunteer and Thomas in the Iowa 25th A Co. William married Sarah Elizabeth Allen on December 21, 1858 in Beaver, Pike, Ohio,(daughter of James Allen and Nancy Allen nee Dikes, married in Jackson Co., Ohio on Sept 17, 1835.) and had 10 children: Mary Jane-born Ohio, Martha Ann-born Ohio, Nancy Ellen-born Wabash, Illinois, Oscar Newton-born Moultrie Co,Illinois, Ida Frances-born Moultrie Co, Illinois, Olivia Caroline-born Moultrie Co,Illinois-died 1875 Moultrie Co,Illinois, William Edward-born Moultrie Co,Illinois, Idella May-born Moultrie Co,Illinois,a stillborn child-born, 1879 near Fulton,Calloway, Missouri, & Arthur Wade, born in Kansas. This is the line we are decendants from. They moved to Kansas, then some of them later on to Oklahoma and back to Illiois.
Samuel Sr. had 2 children from his 3rd marriage to Christina Mossbarger nee Piles. These children were Christina and Samuel Jr. Samuel Jr. married Aseneth Bowman. They had 7 children and the last time we see them is the 1880 Census for Ohio. They lived in Pike Co. Samuel Jr. was a minister for Providence Freewell Baptist Church. I imagine he traveled around the different counties to deliver his sermons, marry couples and give funeral rites. I also have a letter that mentioned he was a school teacher and practiced medicine.

Samuel McDonald Sr. and Christina (3rd wife) are buried at Beaver Union Cemetery in Beaver, Pike, Ohio. Samuel's first wife Martha Hodge is buried at New Harrisburg Cemetery in Carroll Co., Ohio. Her father William Hodge Sr as well as her mother Catherine is also buried there, Mr. Hodge was born in Ireland.
