Notes for Adam Eli Conn: Not in Henry Co Census of 1830. --------------------- Listed on page 68, Line 14 of the 1840 Henry Co, Indiana census: 1 male under 5 (Charles 1) 1 male 5-9 (Adam Jr 5) 1 male 15-19 (William 16) 1 male 30-39 (Adam Conn 38) 1 female under 5 2 female 5-9 (Lucretia 3, Mary Jane 10) 3 female 10-14 (Emma Evaline 11, Nancy Conn 13, Hannah 14) 1 female 40-49 (Mary Clary 40) (2 people engaged in agriculture) ----------------- Adam and his wife lived on a farm in Henry County, Indiana, where they owned 335 acres of land, mostly in fine timber. Adam was a lieutenant in the militia, 16th Regiment, for about four years, beginning 19 May 1823. In civilian life, he was a lawyer and a farmer. The 1850 census showed Adam and Mary on their Henry County farm with their children: Hannah, Evaline, Adam Eli, Lucretia, and Charles. The fertile lands and beautiful small streams in the northwestern part of Henry county early invited the immigrants seeking homes in the new county and Prairie township, which the year before had been diminished in area by the creation of Stony Creek township, was in August , 1829, still further reduced by the creation of Fall Creek township. Starting in 1824 immigrants came into this area, the majority of whom were from Virginia. Among the names listed was Adam E. Conn, Absalom Painter (husband of Sarah Thompson, Sophia's sister), Joseph and Abner Vanmatre (? father of Samantha, David Nation's wife), Peter Sheets and Joshua Sheets (? father of William, Nancy Conn's husband), Lewis and Thomas Swain, Sotha Tomlinson and Joseph Tomlinson (? father or brother of Seth Nation's wife, Dicey), Job Clevenger (? father of Angeline, James Nation's wife), John Quick (? Adam purchased 80 acres in Fall Creek Township, Henry Co, IN on 26 Sep 1827. In 1834 he purchased 328 additional acres. He is shown being a resident of Union Co when he bought the land.
