He married Sarah Bray in 1826 in Monroe County. He applied for a pension on Febuary 19, 1872. He was living in Fayette County. He was given $8.00 a month. He died July 23, 1879 in Butts County. He was over 100 years old. He died a pauper. The total value of property, real and personal, did not exceed over a $1.00 and consisted of nothing more than his wearing clothes which were old and worthless. The state reimbursed his son, Marcus Turner, for burial expenses consisting of: making a coffin-$10.00, burrial clothing-$2.40,and $40.00, which was paid to Marcus for nursing and attention to said sick soldier four months during which time he required constant and personal attention, being old and unable to help himself in any manner during that time and confined to his bed.
