ISABELLA9 BALFOUR (ANDREW8, ANDREW7, JOHN6 ANDREW, GEORGE JOHN5 BALFOUR, HERSCHEL ANDREW4, BALFOUR3, ANDREW OF STRATHER AND2 MUQHANNY, POSS SIR1 MICHAEL) was born 1771 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and died February 22, 1837 in Randolph County, North Carolina. She married JOHN TROY June 24, 1790 in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina, son of MICHAEL TROY and RACHEL POTTS. He was born September 09, 1769 in Paxton, Pennsylvania, and died September 05, 1828 in North Carolina.

John is said by some of his descendants, among them Rev. Jno. C. Troy of Durham, to have been at one time State Solicitor at Salisbury. He was Sheriff of Bladen County shortly prior to 1797.

Late in life, John's father, Michael Troy, became very much reduced in circumstances, owing to the failure of his son John, whose bond he was, as Sheriff of the County of Bladen. In Langdon & Ward vs. Troy, II Haywood's Reports (North Carolina, 1797, p. 165), John Troy was sued on his bond as Sheriff. This suit was against John, finally, and his father was apparently held responsible as a result.

It is not known when he moved to Liberty Township, but in 1820 he was living with his son, John Balfour Troy, in Liberty.

Knee buckles which belonged to John were in the possession of his descendant Mrs. Ida B. Hosea, of Lexington, Mississippi

Soon after Keziah and Jabez married they moved to Adams County, Illinois. Later her mother Mary Henley and brothers and sisters settled in Illinois.

They then moved to Schuyler County, Illinois.



Jabez sold his land and bought farms in Davies County, Missouri and in Linn County, Kansas Territory. He wanted his children to have farms of their own.
