Garrett Connor McGehee (son of John McGehee and Mary Stewart)⁵⁵ was born 16 November 1799⁵⁶, and died 08 August 1878. He married Elizabeth Lewis Cole on 15 January 1824⁵⁶, daughter of Armistead Cole and Nancy Harris.

"Hither to the Lord has Helped me, preserved my health, an d blessed me. I have from 18 years of age Acted in every ca pacity from a private soldier, Sargeant, Lieutenant, Captai n, Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel Commandant of th e 40th Regiment, which last Commission I resigned in May 18 47 in my 48th year. I was appointed a deacon in the Churc h at Lower Goldmine in 1850. May the Lord help me to discha rge all the duties devolveing on me as a Christian, to th e honoe and Glory of his great Name. Amen."
