Researching BANKS, BLAND, ABBOTT, NORRIS, SOLES, PIVER, JARRELL, BARNHILL, HARDEE, COX IN SC, NC & VA
My g-grandfather, Thomas Van Buren Banks, was born abt. 1843 in SC. He married Martha Elizabeth Abbott (1851-1902) and they had two children:
1. William Thomas Edward Banks (b. Oct. 1870, d. 8/25/1923), Darlington Co., SC, m. Minnie Eveline Bland (b. 9/11/1881, d. 12/5/1951).
2. John Franklin Banks (b. 4/2/1874, d. 9/19/1929), Darlington Co., SC. He married Lela Bland (b. 12/5/1882, d. 12/18/1942). Lela was adopted and Bland is her adoptive parents' surname and her birth mother's maiden name. Supposedly, Lela was adopted by her Uncle and Aunt. Would like any information on the birth parents and/or adoptive parents of Lela.
The first record I have of Thomas Banks is from the 1860 census of Darlington Co., SC. It shows Barbara Banks, 70, b. SC, and Thomas, 17, b. SC, living in the household of William Allen (38). William Allen was married to Milly (38) with children Elizabeth (6) and Sally (4). Living next door was Susan Pernice Banks Moody (48/widow of Hugh Moody and daughter of Vincent Banks and Mary Patsy Abbott Banks) and her children William (24), John (22), Alexander (15), Thomas (17), Laura (13), and Andrew (11).
In the 1880 Mechanicsville Twp., Darlington Co., SC Census, Susan Pernice Banks Moody is listed with her son, William Moody (45/Widowed). Also in the household is Alfred Allen, grandson, 13 and Molly Allen (other), 19. Who are the parents of Alfred Allen? Was Susan married to an Allen before her marriage to Hugh Moody?
I would appreciate any information anyone may have about Thomas V. Banks, his ancestors and descendants, or any connections with Susan Pernice Banks Moody or William Allen. Would like to know the surname of Milly, wife of William Allen? Will be happy to share any information I have or find!
