There are Refrences to land transactions on the Durbin Creel area, back then this was a area settled by Holcombed Coles, Joneses, and Browns to name a fewJOHNATHAN HOLCOMBE was born and lived in North Carolina before being brought by his parents to Upper, or Piedmont Section (Old Ninety-Six District) South Carolina, and it is said that Johnathan had descendants who moved "North" and reared sons who became Union soldiers, JOHNATHAN HOLCOMBE served in the American Revolutionary War in COLONEL THOMAS BRANDON's Regiment, South Carolina Militia for which he was paid thirteen pounds 27 May 1785. He then lived in the part of Ninety-sixth District from which Union and Spartanburg Districts were formed in 1798.
JOHNATHAN HOLCOMBE and his brother JEREMIAH HOLCOMBE were in Warren County, Ky. for its opening to settlement in 1790's and were accompanied by ZACHARIAH HOLCOMBE who had gone to Warren from his home in Pendleton District, S. C. over the route taken in part by DANIEL BOONE, of Rowan County, N. C. about 1765. Records indicate rather that Zachariah followed his brothers a few years later.
