"The descendents of John and Sarah Hutchison were amo ng York County's earliest pioneers. John, Sarah, their fiv e sons and one daughter arrived in Charleston, South Caroli na in 1773 from Ballybrick, Drumballyroney Parish, County D own, Northern Ireland. (The Hutchison's brought a church l etter, dated June 1773, stating that they were from Ballyro oney, Ireland) They first settled in Waxhaws in southern M ecklenburg County, North Carolina. The known children of John and Sarah are Alexander , James, John, Samuel, Sarah and David. All the children were born in Irel and. The four oldest sons fought in the Revolutionary War . The oldest son, Alexander, died at the Battle of Hanging Rock. Samuel als o fought in that battle. The conduct of the Hutchison son s during the war won the respect of the Catawba Indians. T he Catawba Indians fought with the settlers against the Bri tish. With American independence and the admiration of th e Catawba Indians, three of the Hutchison sons migrated t o eastern York County, South Carolina before 1790. John, S amuel and David were successful planters and ran large plan tations in York County. They were able to lease large trac ts of Catawba Indian land directly from their Indian friend s.
