MCINTYRE- Rutland, MA.; Niagara, NY.; Ontario; MichiganUpdated August 2, 2009 |
I found our family goes back to Myles STANDISH,John ALDEN & William MULLINS! We have a MAYFLOWER lineage. (See the report toward the bottom.) ______________________________________________________________ Our ULSTER SCOTS IN MASSACHUSETTS Many of the families within these files are from Western New York including Newfane and Palmyra ( after 1800 ), Ontario, Canada ( c.1820+ ) and Michigan ( c.1843+ ). Prior to 1800 in Cummington, Mass. Have found our family came to the colonies between 1716 and 1718 from Tyrone, Ireland. John McIntyre was born there about 1678. His father was most likely a Scot who went to Ulster c.1640. John married Grace then brought her and three sons to the colonies. They lived near or in Rutland MA where John died 26 May 1759. 9 children are known to have lived. James; John; Thomas; Agnes; Janet; Elizabeth; Martha; Mary; Christian. Agnes was the first of John and Grace's children born in the Colonies on 22 Dec 1719. Our line goes through John's son, Thomas & wife Sarah (8 children). Alexander; Thomas; William; James; Margaret; Phebe; Hannah; Martha. We then go through Tom's son, Alexander & wife Elizabeth Robinson (married Cummington, MA 27 Sep 1782) She the sister of Dr. Gain Robinson and mother of Dr. Alexander McIntyre both practicing medicine in Palmyra, Wayne County, NY. Alex and Elizabeth had 7 (known to me) Alexander; Thomas(ours); Abner; Lucretia; Martha; Elizabeth; Esther. It is through Elizabeth Robinson that we link into the Mayflower lineage. [Alexander (Sr.) was taken prisoner by the English in 1813 - he died while imprisoned at Quebec in 1815.] We go through Alex's son Thomas... Thomas McIntyre served in the NY State Militia during the War of 1812. I have a large file on Thomas from the U.S. National Archives and from Albany, NY. Sgt Thomas McIntyre served under Capt James Cronk and Col Hugh W. Dobbin. On 20 July 1814, he enlisted for 10 months in the regular infantry at Youngstown, NY. Served in Gen. Brown's campaign in the Willco-core(?) - guarding the Fort under command of Lenard and remained there until the Fort was taken by the British ant was again, taken prisoner. His property was taken from him and burned at this time. He married 13 Jan 1813 in Porter, NY Elizabeth Brown daughter of Thomas & Hannah Brown. Thomas Brown and his son-in-law were both Ministers for "The Christian Church" a branch off the Puritain faith. Thomas moved his wife and 4 young sons to Newmarket, Ontario Canada (c. 1820) and then to Oakland County Michigan (c. 1846). He was officially ordained while serving in Canada Elder Thomas McIntyre is buried in Oakland County, MI. Elizabeth is buried in Hadley, MI. Their youngest son, John Benjamin(d. 25 Oct 1903-Rich Twp Cemetery) and his first wife, Phebe Lawrence (of Oakland Co., MI) were married 14 Jan 1858 in Oakland County, MI. ____________________________________________________ |
