Updated September 5, 2000

Murdoch McInnis emigrated from Scotland about 1790, married Sallie Bethune, and settled in Richmond County, NC. There were twelve children born to this couple; seven moved to the Pea River Community, near Clio Alabama in the 1820's. The others remained in Richmond County: Angus, Alexander, Flora, Elizabeth. *Alexander was never married and was killed in the Civil War.
*Elizabeth never married, but inherited Bethune land from two aunts. She died in 1886, leaving her inheritance to her sister Flora and housekeeper, Janet Jackson.
*Flora married Daniel Stewart.
*Angus (born 1812) married Mary Jane Thomas and continued to work the family's farm in Richmond County. They were members of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, and are buried in that Church Cemetary.
I am looking for information about Sallie Bethune and Mary Jane Thomas.
